Sustainability

It takes us all.

Green building habits are not a trend; they are a long-term commitment to our future and our planet. Dedication to sustainability starts with our state-of-the art manufacturing facility, and carries through the entire door building process.

Located among the green pines of Wisconsin, Oshkosh Door Company understands the responsibility a manufacturer has as a good steward of the environment. Green building doors help promote greater sustainability.

Oshkosh Door Company is committed to making a difference by operating a low-emitting facility and offering a wide range of green building options using healthy choice Type 1 adhesives. Eco-friendly door core options have rapidly renewable building material, 100% recycle content, or certified wood that comes from forests using sustainable practices to ensure environmental protection. Look to Oshkosh Door Company for products that comply with LEED® (see below) and FSC®(see below) building standards.

We’re especially proud to have been inducted into the Green Masters Program by the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council, which applauded Oshkosh Door Company for our “outstanding dedication to integrating principles of sustainability into its operations while pursuing business excellence.”

Our efforts also earned us a mention by Wisconsin Public Service.

SCL is the material used in most doors we manufacture, including our stiles and rails. SCL is manufactured from fast-growing trees such as Aspen and Basswood. These materials minimize strain on slow-growing hardwood trees. The Window and Door Manufacturers Association (WDMA) and the Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI) have both recognized SCL as an approved material for stiles, rails, and core material.

Engineered Fiber Crossband’s (EFB) are used exclusively in our manufacturing process. EFB’s improve product quality, by providing a superior laminating surface as compared to natural poplar crossbands.

Oshkosh Door Company is proud to offer no added urea-formaldehyde core options to reduce the total amount of formaldehyde in a building setting. Formaldehyde is naturally occurring in wood, therefore making a completely formaldehyde free wood core impossible.

Many green building programs specify NAUF composite wood, agrifiber and laminating adhesives. Oshkosh Door Company sources NAUF products in many core options including some FSC® and LEED® compliant core.

Incorporating veneer banded stiles in the manufacturing process not only provides a more aesthetically pleasing door, it also reduces the amount of slow-growing hardwood material used in a door.

Factory finishing continues to be the most environmentally responsible way to finish wood doors. Oshkosh Door Company is proud to use only water-based stains and UV-cured topcoats in our finishing process. Not only does this provide our customers with a great looking, durable finish, it also minimizes the amount of Volatile Organic Compounds that other finish materials can emit into the atmosphere.
